As the debate over immigration and enforcement continues to impact communities across the District, it is more important than ever to listen to the stories of our neighbors whose personal experiences with and perspectives on immigration are often ignored or overlooked. Last May, the Latin American Youth Center’s (LAYC) Latino Youth Leadership Council launched a collection of graphic memoirs titled Voces Sin Fronteras: Our Stories, Our Truth. The book presents the experiences of 16 immigrant youth in their own words, told side-by-side in both Spanish and in English. Visit the LAYC Blog at layc-dc.org/blog to learn more about the creation of the graphic memoir in a post written by Juan Pacheco, LAYC’s Community Peace Mobilizer. You can purchase your own copy by visiting shoutmousepress.org/cart1/layc. Proceeds of sales will help sustain LAYC programming and activities that support immigrant youth in our community.
