We Are Family!
10 Million people over the age of 50 live below the poverty line while 25% of adults continue to suffer daily from social isolation and lack of human interaction. Whether you are a toddler, a teen, or a senior citizen, we all need community and yearn for human connection; however, today, more than ever before, isolation is an unending epidemic.
Give the gift of companionship and time to an isolated senior and help build a caring, just, and inclusive community.
“Grounded in grassroots senior leadership, We Are Family mobilizes a committed corps of volunteers to reach out to isolated inner-city seniors with free services, advocacy, and companionship, building a network of caring eyes and ears that enables at-risk seniors to age in place. More than simply a social service provider, We Are Family is a bold experiment in building caring, just and inclusive community.”
Servicing over 700 seniors each month in the Columbia Heights, Shaw, North Capitol Street, Petworth, and Adams-Morgan neighborhoods We Are Family places friendship and collaboration at the center of its mission, creating a network of support and solidarity to ensure no one is left behind.
We are all better together! What are you waiting for? October is full of volunteer opportunities! Grab a friend and change a life.

Happy 3rd Birthday to Georgia Avenue Thrive!
Georgia Avenue Thrive is a volunteer-led non-profit making our neighborhood more connected, inclusive and vibrant. We advocate for the neighbors, businesses and visitors of Lower Georgia Avenue. We formed in 2015 as the Georgia Avenue/Lamont Street Public Safety Task Force, due to increased crime. After helping the community address these concerns, we broadened our efforts. We’re excited to work with you too! To volunteer, contact Matt.McFarland@gmail.com
